Snugpak Softie Elite 5 Sleeping Bag

£121.95

Description

With its ability to control the internal temperature, the Snugpak Softie Elite 5 Sleeping Bag is capable of keeping you warm and comfortable in temperatures as low as -20°C.

The Expander Panel System, present on all Softie Elite bags, is the key to the Elite 5’s flexibility, instantly transforming the bag into a more spacious and airy environment.

This helps to regulate the temperature and means the bag can be used in a wider range of temperatures than other sleeping bags.

When the temperatures drop and you need the extra warmth you can then zip the panel back up and instantly make the sleeping bag warmer again.

The sleeping bag’s outer fabric is made of resilient Paratex Micro which is windproof and water-repellent while the Sofite® insulation filling and Reflectatherm inner lining keeps the user snug and warm.

The Elite range of bags are mummy-shaped which keeps the air around your feet warmer instead of circulating and losing temperature as it can in a regular-shaped sleeping bag.

A compression stuff sack is included with the bag helping to reduce the size when not in use and making it easy to carry.

Snugpak Softie Elite 5 Sleeping Bag

Super warm bag

I have spent a few nights out in this bag so far and have been super-comfortable and cosseted in its cozy fabrics. The fabric looks like it will be cold to the touch, but it really isn’t and within a second it feels smooth and comfortable against the skin. I haven’t tested it to anything like extremes, but on nights between 5-12 Celsius I was lovely and warm, while wearing only shortie night wear and no extra layers or blankets.

The ability to extend the size of the bag with the zip baffle is really useful, especially as some large people might find the bag a bit narrow. I am 183cm and on the slimmer side and while it is snug, but fine for me, it could be restrictive for really broad sleepers. Length is very generous and it feels great when either back or side sleeping.

The insulation actually has a significant cushioning effect on the bottom of the bag, making a mattress extra comfortable. The hood seems a bit shallow and won’t envelop the head to the extent of some bags I have used, but I haven’t got anywhere near needing the hood so far.

I find that drops of water bead off the external fabric, whereas it will wet somewhat when in contact with condensation on a tent inner, but it dries fast. Build quality and finish seem top-notch and it has good YKK zips that don’t snag if you are reasonably careful (better done from inside), due to a tape adjacent to the zip line. Its bulk would make it a non-starter for hiking for me, but I am using it for occasional Scout volunteering and regular DofE work, where I can use a vehicle to take my kit to camp and for that it is ideal. Service from Military Kit was fast and efficient and both the good price and free delivery were welcome. Really delighted with this bag.

Snugpak Softie Elite 5

I purchased the Elite 5 to replace an old Hawke 9. First impression was wow, it is a much bigger pack size and about 1kg heavier. Build quality looks fantastic, although the zip is a bit fiddly and does snag - so will be interesting to try in the dark and inside a bivvy bag.
I've not used it yet during winter camping, but can tell straight away that the Elite 5 has some serious warmth qualities and will be testing first on the widest zip setting, as personally found this more comfortable.
I must congratulate Military Kit for their first class service and frequent order updates. Thank you.

Definitely recommend

This purchase was a recommendation and I too absolutely recommend it. Comfy, warm and not too claustrophobic for a mummy bag.

Snugpak Softie Elite 5 Sleeping Bag.

Warm and well built bag. It is bulky, but that aside it is an excellent well priced effective bag. Great service from MilitaryKit.

A great bag

It’s the same pack size as the Army Bouncing bomb but s far better piece of kit - it unzips all the way to the bottom which makes ingress and egress with boots easier - it’s a really nice bag

Nice and warm but unsure about the material where your feet go as it felt like they couldn't breathe.
