Lowa Breacher S MID Desert Boot - Coyote OP

I was searching for a quality desert boots and narrowed down the choice to either the Altberg Desert Microlite or Lowa Beacher S MID Desert Boot. Both looked good and had great reviews, but I know that Lowa boots tend to fit me slightly better. Unfortunately, militarykit.com were not selling the Breacher S at the time of first looking. However, just before ordering the Altberg I had a final check on the MK website and was pleased to see they were now stocking the Lowa too - and at a better price than competitors. I called to ask for more in formation about the linings in each, as this can affect how much room is taken up in the boot and therefore influence which size I buy. In Lowa I usually go for my shoe size (7 medium) and find there’s enough length even with thicker socks, whereas with Altberg I have to go up half or even a full size. My enquiry was handled in a friendly and helpful manner and the member of staff even went the extra mile and emailed a few pictures of each boot lining to me (thank you Gemma). In the end I ordered a size 7 Lowa (though I might also get the Altberg at another time) and the fit is perfect. The supplied insoles are fine but as a preference I always replace them with a pair of Sorbothane Cush ‘n’ Steps foam insoles, which are really comfortable and good value (please stock them MK!). The first thing I should say is that the Breacher S boots are a great colour - more tan/caramel than they appear on most websites - and they look equally good with combats or jeans. Made from thick but soft suede and Cordura, no breaking in was needed and the build quality is of the usual high standard associated with Lowa. The sole has just the right amount of flex and grips well on lots of different surfaces, even when wet underfoot. The rubber toe/heel caps also prevent scuffing of the suede and provide extra protection for the foot. Lining is a durable mesh fabric with a suede section around the heel/achilles area, and although lower in leg height than the Lowa combat boot, ankle support is still very good and they are lighter in weight. Overall an excellent boot and a great company to deal with.
